Default Fushia Cuttings in Greenhouse

Normally I buy new mini fushias for my hanging baskets and grow them on in the greenhouse. Last autumn I just threw the old baskets in the greenhouse, they are still there. I guess a could take cuttings of the Fushias to grow on in the greenhouse. I do have a propogator. Anyone know the best time to start what's the min temperature etc. General advice please.
Thanks
Jimmy

I took some cuttings from my mother-in-law's fuschia in September - I just nipped out nice looking bits and rooted them in water (they were doing fine till I went away for a week and the kids didn't top up the water). I guess you could try some like that and keep them in the house or try various methods of cuttings and see what works best.

If the old plants are OK, then just tidy them up, take off dead leaves etc and cut back fairly hard to just above a leaf joint. Gradually increase watering and when new shoots form you can use these as cuttings. Like Shirl I generally root mine in a glass of water and pot on when roots have formed. Kitchen windowsill works OK. As well as taking the cuttings for new plants the old plants should grow and flower well for at least one more season.

Default Hardy Fuschias

I grow my Hardy fuschias outside, and non hardy in the greenhouse. They are really easy to propagate - just cut a few healthy stems and stick them into a pot - there is not much that can go wrong with them - I grow a lot of them for bulking up the garden,

I always get excited and prune my outdoor fuchsias too early, then they get frost-nipped

And there I am telling everyone else to be more patient

tidy them up keep them moist not wet through the winter they will start shooting in the spring then let nature its coarse if you want lots of shoots in the spring spray with a very fine spray of water over the branches in the spring this softens the bark and you will get plenty of cuttings then and do not forget to change the compost in the spring jacob

I am just about to start taking 100's of fuchsia cuttings off my mother plants, they have been brought into growth, fed and have nice strong shoots to use, these need no rooting powder and i put upto 15 in a pot, cover with a bag seal with rubber band and put into an unheated propergator in the heated greenhouse, they root in about 3 weeks, you will know when they have rooted as they will look fresher and greener
Just been asked to do a load for the fuchsia clubs plant stand (help)!
The show fuchsias are being sorted out and will be started back into growth soon, i strip all leaves off in October and store them on the dry side watering very little.
Good luck and if you need any help just shout !
