I've been prowling the interweb as to using ferrous sulphate to tart a lawn up. I see that various dosage rates have different effects. Weak doses just green the lawn. Medium doses harden the lawn ready for winter, and high doses kill moss. What I can't find is how often to apply it at the different strengths. Any advice would be appreciated.

You won't like it but ... give the lawn the conditions it requires, then you won't need to add bits of this & that. It's a losing battle if conditions aren't right, or if you're trying to grow the wrong type of grass.

Or learn to love the moss ~ call it a Japanese lawn. They're lovely & springy under the feet

I use a mix of six scoops of compost three scoops of sand/grit and two scoops of perlite, the quantity is unimportant as long as the ratio is the same, if for seeds I use this mix, if I am potting on I add some blood, fish and bone, along with a small quantity of chicken manure pellets
