  • Climber for a west facing fence...

I have a west facing fence that gets very little sunlight due to its position and it is in need of some sprucing up and wanted to ask the experts on here if there is any good suggestions for a decent climber that will be happy enough in almost complete shade.

Hello NoWayPedro, if your fence is west facing it should get some light. If it is very short of light then you should be looking for what will grow north facing.
The rose Zepherin Drouhin will grow in north facing conditions, as will Hydrangea Petiolaris.
I think most honeysuckles will do well there And some campanulas say any position. You could check it out.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

I bought what turned out to be a russian vine for one end of my garage and one side of my decking (the label just had a picture of pretty white flowers so I didnt realise what it was until I got it home) - decided that would be farrrr to vigorous for its spot so took it back at the weekend and the lovely lady in the GC swopped it for a lovely clematis for me hehe! Russian Vine is apparently very very very vigorous and only to be used if you have lots and lots of space for it and dont mind all the leaves dropping everywhere in the autumn.

My shady spot has a honeysuckle thats perfectly happy and smells fab too!
Life may not be the party we hoped for but since we're here we might as well dance

We have put three pyracantha along the back of our shaded bed (to cover an ugly garage wall which is next doors), it flowers (dont know colour yet) and has orange berries apparently adored by the birds.
