  • Bendy irises

Why do my flag irises have such long flower stalks that then bend into strange shapes when they get too tall. Most of them are underneath an olive tree which has just been drastically pruned and is therefore letting in more light. Every year so far they have grown bendy.

Irises aren't shade lovers, they prefer an open aspect. I've never seen a bent one

Have you sprayed nearby with weed killer?

They are facing south but underneath the olive tree - got loads of them. And no, they have never had wee-killer on/near them. Even the irises in the other bed without anything over them grow really long stalks that bed this way and that. The flags are normally beautiful though. If I remember I will take some photos when they are in flower, which won't be long at this rate.
