Acer

All, can you please give me some advice on the soil required for growing an acer, i transplanted ( against the wishes of my other half ) into a bigger tub, and whilst it has flowered/leaved only the top half looks to have new growth. The correct answer and subsequent flourishing acer would see a very happy Kitty, and Eric have some good brownie points in the bank
