well it looks like I'll have to wait untill next year... but I cant grumble, my Bramley bought this year is in flower now and that was a complete surprise, so the plum jam will have to wait

The flowers on my plum trees have been and gone. I don't know how old they are (I inherited them) but they're definitley 'mature'.
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."

My Victoria's flowers have been and gone. The flowers opened 2-3 weeks ago and the last of the petals fell off last week.

You mention that your plum has "grown really well" - that might be the problem.
If plants have it too good, they keep on growing. Only when they start to feel a bit stressed (less feeding, less watering, competition from other plants, summer pruning etc) do they start fruiting.

Ours flowered last year but the weather was so bad we didn't get anything off it, this year there are no signs of flowers

Victoria has a tendency to produce too much flowers/fruit and nearly kill itself in the process. It then produces no fruit the next year while it recovers. But then it overproduces again the following season and gets stuck in an "all or nothing" fruiting situation, which is not ideal.
I have a couple of apples that have unexpectedly slipped into biennial without any apparent reason. I'll have to shock them out of it.
I grow my Victoria on it's own, without a pollinator (it's partially self-fertile), so pollination is not too heavy. I then cut off any damaged plums that haven't fallen in the June drop and any others that I notice have been pest-damaged during the summer. Mine gives me no trouble with biennial bearing as a result and I keep the pests under control.

I have the same problem. I bought mine as bare root stock from Blackmoor nurseries beg of last year. It was potted up almost immediately. I had only leaves last year and this year I have had only two flowers. It seems healthy enough and its next to other pollinaters, although at times it has gone short of water and thinking about it I dont think Ive ever fed it. I was hoping for some plums this year. Also my damson gave me no fruit whatsoever last year but the prev year it was full of them, do they have on/off years as well ?

I don't know what type my inherited plum is, but it finished flowering about 2 weeks ago. Also it has flowered each year for the last 3 years.

Only put my Golden Gage (yellow plum) in at the beg of april so only coming into bud, no leaves or blossom yet. Will probably be next year for that one.

There's a plum on our new lottie in blossom now. Quite a mature tree so we'll have to see what we get by way of fruit. Don't know what variety it is yet. My friend over Manchester way has a Vicky and only had 3 plums last year but says this year it's heavy with blossom so is hoping for a lot more. Seems to be touch and go. He never knows from one year to the next what he's going to get from it.

Off to plant out my new tayberry, a present for taking my Dad out for lunch. Think he's just not recovered from the shock of my getting into GYO.

I don't know what any of my fruit trees are any more I labelled them all carefully last summer when I planted them in pots. Over the cruddy summer and winter the weather seems to have taken the names off every darned label. The only thing I definately recognised this spring was the nectarine which I put in the greenhouse as soon as the flower buds started to show. I think I recognise one cherry and one crab apple tree - but the gages, pears and plums will have to just be a mystery now
