Default Is it too late to repot my toms?

Hi there. I have 3 tomato plants growing in a grow bag thing on my balcony. They are really short, but they have loads of fruit on them, which are all green (and don't seem to want to turn green, but that is probably because we had a few weeks of really bad weather recently). I keep reading everywhere that tomato plants should be repotted at least once, and I never did this. I am wondering whether this is something I should do now, or not, now that the plants have lots of fruit on them? Any advice would be gratefully received!

Welcome to the Vine ADLM. The usual recommendation for tomatoes is 2 to a growbag - but if you've got 3 - oh well, you'll just have to water them a bit more often. If they've got fruit on, I wouldn't move them. Don't worry about them not turning red yet, it is only July. September is usual, but they might do it before that depending on variety and weather. Good luck.

Once they're in a growbag you can't re-pot. That's their final quarters. As you say they're short I would imagine they are a bush variety - do you have any idea which variety they are? The fruit will soon start to turn from green to red, don't worry. Just make sure they're fed and watered regularly.

I am not sure exactly the variety, I am sure they were "balkon tomaten" which, translates directly as balcony tomatoes, so I imagine they probably are a bush variety. Thank you very much for the advice! I will keep practicing my patience...this is the first time I have grown my own tomatoes, so I have been a bit over-excited and impatient!

Where are you growing stuff adlm? Does help us when we give advice if we know roughly where you are. Go to your user profile and put a location in - this will then show up when you post. Doesn't have to be a town, a county will do.

Wow, what's the weather like there?
My tomato plants only have green ones on too - they'll ripen eventually, I'm sure.

This week the weather is fantastic. So happy as it has been a bit grotty for a few weeks. There has been an exciting development today too...two of my tomatoes are starting to go red!! So excited!
