I have one of these (inherited it with the house) it's huge!
It needs some kind of support so againt a fence or along wires or similar, it grows multi stems (mine has 20ish) from the base in summer, these will fruit the following year - I tie them in a kind of bundle until the previous years stems (canes?)have fruited. when you have picked all the fruit cut out all fruited stems then tie in the new stems ready for next year. The stems grow to about 15-20ft long! I get loads and loads of fruit though!
    Hope this makes sense!

If you want more plants just stick the end of a stem inti the ground(still attached) and it will root, when rooted just detatch from the main plant.

thank you very much coomber,it does make sence to me and just the information i need, sounds like the same treatment as raspberriys, only they are a much larger plant,i now have to think where to put it in the garden, deffinatley not going down the lottie,it's a young plant at the moment,1 main stem split into 2,13 inch high, with 1smaller one,so it's good job i getting the right advice before i put it in the ground, thanks again

if they going to get up to 20ft high, would it harm it in any way if i was to lop a bit of,or what you think about trying to tie the canes in at an angle,a steep 1 at that,i'm only 5ft2 ,is the fruit similar looking to blackberries, what sort of size am i to expect, presuming i may get any next year, and what time of year are they fruiting please.

Train them as you would a Blackberry, as they will produce masses of fruit, they will be water hungry in the summer (someone else will tell you what a "summer" is), so come spring give them a good layer of mulch.

Their habit is entirely different to that of raspberry.
I am certain that the day my boat comes in, I'll be at the airport.

lottie - they don't grow to 20ft HIGH, the runners are 15-20ft LONG
i have 3 wires running horizontally along the fence - the wires are about 2ft, 3.5ft and 5ft off the ground - the runners are just wrapped over the horizontal wires so it spreads outwards, not upwards!

the fruits on mine are larger than raspberries - they turn pale red, then very dark red, then die - and yes, there will be masses of fruit
