  • Summer pruning gooseberry

As the title says - I've read that I'm supposed to be summer pruning my gooseberry bushes.

I've absolutely no idea what that means.

    Any advice?

    Cheers,

Our England is a garden, and such gardens are not made
By singing-'Oh how beautiful!" and sitting in the shade,
While better men than we go out and start their working lives
At grubbing weeds from gravel paths with broken dinner-knives. ~ Rudyard Kipling

I was always told to prune gooseberries in February, but its that long ago I can't remember why!
I suppose it would do no harm to tidy up the bushes after the fruits have been picked?
