...how big a pot would I need for a rhubarb crown?

I don't have space in my patch for this, but can spare some decking space for a pot. Has anyone grown one in a pot? I read that they are hungry plants so I know it's not ideal, but wondered if anyone's had any success. I have a crown of 'Red Champagne'.

I kept three crowns 'heeled in' in a plastic storage crate approx 15"x20"x15"deep for two years before I managed to get them planted out. They did produce some stalks, but it obviously wasn't ideal conditions for them. They may have been happier if the container had been bigger, but it was only supposed to be temporary lodgings!!

Thank you Beccy. I'm thinking a half barrel for one crown, so hopefully will still get a few stalks off them a year. I never buy it, but DH loves it.

I think that sounds fine, just remember to water and feed it, and give it a mulch of good homemade compost or well rotten horse manure in the autumn.
