  • Redish flesh apple?

    Hi all fellow fruiters.

I have a Red Devil apple tree growing as a cordon and wondered if the flesh on this was normal? It tasted very nice! very sweet

Yeah it is normal, and i think it looks pretty appetising like that aswell.

May i ask were you acquired from? Sounds like a tasty apple.

Yes, Red Devil will sometimes have some red in the flesh.
Its parent (Discovery) also has it to a slightly lesser extent and so will some of their distant ancestors.

Here's a picture of one of my Discovery apples, with a trace of red in the flesh:

Chrisguk, bought it from Ken Muir a couple of years ago so this is the first year i have gotten fruit from it... mind you i only got 2 apples but they were both of good size and worth the wait!

FB, quite amazing the difference in flesh considering both trees are related.

                  Thanks bharper

My apple scrumptious also exhibits reddening of the flesh just under the surface of the skin at times

Discovery are delicious, and the ones I often get from the farm shop, (obviously when in season) are usually very pink fleshed. Red devil is very lucky to have Discovery as its parent!

I don't know how they can claim that ! There are lots of pre-existing red flesh apples. A friend of mine has a large collection
