Default Missed pruning pear tree

I missed the opportunity to prune my Conference pear. It is now in full flower but also has much unwanted growth, watershoots and the like. Would it do any harm to prune it now? It really needs it.

Spring at last in Paisley.

I would prune it. But it is hard to say yes or no because you're choosing the lesser of two weevils.
