    Lemon Tree

    My 6 foot Lemon tree has about 20 green lemons on it that don't seem to be turning yellow very quickly at all and it's lost lots of leaves, could this be due to over-watering? It's in a pot and is kept in a conservatory during the winter but outside in the summer. If anyone has any advice on the best way to keep a lemon tree looking good I'd be very grateful.

    Sorry Gordon, I'm no expert on lemon trees, but my initial thought was check the pot is big enough - 6ft is a decent height and it's roots might be getting too big, stunting it's growth and survival chances...?

      Lemons can take up to 18 months from pollination to ripen...so you may be in for a long wait!


      Not sure about leaves dropping.....you dont say what type / size pot, compost type, watering habits etc.
      If you have recently moved the plant 'shock' can cause the plant leaves to yellow and fall off.

      As a start you could try keeping it on wide saucer of moist gravel and spray over the foliage regularly with plain water in order to build up the humidity.
      Try to keep the tree evenly moist, and feed it regularly with special citrus fertiliser.
      Chempak make one that should be stocked by most garden centres. There is a version for summer and one for winter as the plants need feeding all the year round.

        hello i live in valencia spain and lemon trees often drop some leaves which have turned yellow i tnink its normal

          what soil is in ur pot, if it is from your garden it is probably clay and is easily waterlogged. That hapens to me with alot of my plants in pots, its best to use a mixture of sand and grit with compost.
          Dont judge a plant by it's pot.

            My lemon tree dropped a few leaves just after it arrived I searched the internet and found that its something to do with the roots being cold and the leaves having direct light on them, actually I think there's a thread on here, yes it is I googled it and followed the link to this forum anyways i wrapped my pot in 2 layers of bubble wrap (it's in the conservatory but away from the windows on the back wall) any how no more leaves have dropped so this may work for you
