  • Reusing Sludgy Compost

I grew quite a lot of spuds in sacks of multi-purpose compost. When emptying the sacks, a lot of the compost was like smelly sludge. I want to re-use the compost in pots of brassicas.

Is it ok to use the sludgy compost as it is? Or better to dry it out first? Should I mix it with anything?

I reuse all my compost - just spent some time this afternoon emptying out pepper pots, removing the thick roots and potting on brassicas into it.

If it's too sludgy, leave it in a pot somewhere dry to drain, or put it in a tray in the sun to dry out - and then mix some MPC/your own compost in and just reuse.
