  • More apple recipes!

I've got loads of cooking apples which don't keep very long - a few weeks at best. Anyone got any more ideas for using them? Too many apple pies and crumbles make us fat!

    Apple and Blackberry Crumble

    Servers 4-6

1 cooking Apple peeled and diced
    Similar amount of blackberrys
    8tbsp of sugar
    4 tbsp water
    220g flour
    110g butter diced
    110g demerara sugar
    1tsp ground cinnamon

    preheat over to 200C
put the apple, blackberries, sugar and water in an oven proof dish

in a mixing bowl put the flour, demerara sugar, butter and cinnamon, rub the butter in until you have a crubly texture

place the crumbly mixture ontop of the fruit and gently press down.

put the oven proof dish on a baking tray and bake for 45-60 min

server with either cream, custart or ice cream

Hmmm... Mum's got an apple tree and visited my friends new house last night - only to discover a blackberry bush at the end of her garden (lucky thing!) Could be onto a winner here...!

I use a mix of six scoops of compost three scoops of sand/grit and two scoops of perlite, the quantity is unimportant as long as the ratio is the same, if for seeds I use this mix, if I am potting on I add some blood, fish and bone, along with a small quantity of chicken manure pellets
