Default 40 year wait!!!!

I finally spoke to the local allotment manager last night and he's put me on the list- number 25.
he also told me that only 3 plots had changed hands in the last 5 years so by my reckoning i shall be in my 70s before it's my turn.
I just hope it's not full of brambles, etc... as i'm not sure i'll have the strength to clear them!

Have you been down there to see if any are looking untended; if you keep on at them to get rid of untended plot holders, that can speed up the process.

Alternatively, are there any sites a little further away?

I know how you feel - how is it possible when there are waiting lists for plots to become so neglected?

the allotment site looks really well kept- at least what i can see of it from outside the fence!
the next nearest ones are a good 45 minute walk away so they'd certainly keep me fit but i think they're worth a try.
fingers crossed...

apparently there is some rule about if 6 people want an allotment (read it on here somewhere) they have to provide one ....... 25 people waiting is ridiculous, if you can find out about the rules, maybe you can challenge the council?

25 people on the list is not too bad - the ONLY plot in our area has 102 sites, and had 151 on the waiting list last March (and since then is surely gone up again as more and more people realise locally that there actually IS a site).

The rule does exist, but try getting the council to do anything about it!!! They will come up with every excuse under the sun - no money, no spare land, etc. etc. ad infinitum.

Poor site management. If plots are neglected then the tenants should be given a warning by the management, and then given notice to quit. Most allotment tenancy agreements include a clause that the plot should be cultivated and managed properly and definitely not allowed to produce only weeds that spread to other plots. If a tenant is unwell and unable to manage for a short period of time, fair enough, but people who rent them and never use them should have their agreements terminated.
