KK With a sharp thumb nail, from what I have read lots of cultivation of the ground they dont like being disturbed or there are methods like burying bags of bran which after a time you dig up and burn, growing wheat which you do the same, or there is a plant that attracts them, the wire worm enters the plant and the plant dies as the plant dies you dig this up and dispose taking the wire worm with it.

I just have a flat piece of board next to me whenever I'm turning the soil over. Any nasty beasties which come to light get put on the board, which I then put on top of the wheel barrow when I go & the birds have a feast! This includes wire worms, slugs, slug eggs, vine weevil grubs, chafer grubs etc. Seems to work, haven't had much trouble with any bugs except snails! *Touching wood*

I use a mix of six scoops of compost three scoops of sand/grit and two scoops of perlite, the quantity is unimportant as long as the ratio is the same, if for seeds I use this mix, if I am potting on I add some blood, fish and bone, along with a small quantity of chicken manure pellets
