  • We have a shed!

Feel like we've got a proper lottie now that we have a shed. Picked it up last Sunday on freecycle. It's not the poshest affair but it was free and although it has a little bit of rot in one corner, we've repaired that and re-felting to stop the leak. Anyway, it's now got pride of place in the back corner of the plot and is already linked upto an IBC so as soon as it rains I'll have a water supply! All very exciting, will be going down tomorrow to put up some shelves and take some old plastic garden chairs so I don't have to sit on the floor when I'm having a brew.

Just the rest of the lottie to dig now! On the subject of which, the back third is going to be devoted to soft fruit, most of the other plots on the site have their bushes surrounded by rough grass. Is this a good idea in that it will suppress the weeds or is it more trouble than it's worth in that I'll have to cut it fairly often? At home I have bark, however this would be far too expensive at the plot due to the amount I would require.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I have put all my soft fruit into wood bordered beds, much like raised beds. Much easier to weed, place fertiliser/compost and mulch. Between I have placed weed control fabric with wood chipping but then I do get these free on our site.

Even if you are going to leave it as grass, I would advise the wood border as it is much easier to mow and strim up to, besides the obvious benefits I have put above.
I am certain that the day my boat comes in, I'll be at the airport.

You definitely need a flag on your shed.

I just posted a wanted on freecycle and somebody replied within a few hours - couldn't believe how easy it was. Think the previous owners where just glad that somebody was willing to take it down and get rid of it for them.. Picked up an old bedroom chest of drawers that the mother in law was throwing out yesterday so it's looking pretty good. Loved having a base to leave my stuff while I was up the lottie today. You'd think at 38 I'd have grown out of such childish excitment but am glad that I haven't!

No, the chooks are going to go down the other end of the plot but probably not until next year!

Wouldnt be without my shed its getting so full I have to take the folding chair and a couple of bits out to get in really must sort it out.
Keep all sorts in it just in case I need them. My kettle is a must along with coffee, teabags, mugs, saucepan, cutlery, soup mug all kept in a big plastic box with lid.
                              Gardening ..... begins with daybreak
                              and ends with backache
