I'll be interested to see the results too. I'd generally thought (been led to believe?) that jan/feb as the usual lease renewal time was the likeliest time for plots to be offered but I'm another october beneficiary!

I think it has to do with when the allotment in question sets its end of year.

My old site runs a calender year hence leasing Jan to December and therefore if some one goes or is pushed the entitlement falls free at the end of December.
The weeks and the years are fine. It's the days I can't cope with!

Our year goes from April to April, or at least thats when the rent is due, but they usually allocate them as soon as someone gives up and someone comes along who wants one!

          Hi
I got mine at the end of August, our rent is due in April. I think three years ago there were still vacant plots to be had so mine was dependent on someone giving up in the April
Now we have a waiting list but it seems to take the council forever to sort out, there has been a flurry of new arrivals last month and this on plots that have been unworked for over a year. Pity they can't speed things up a bit when people are so eager to make a start.

I got mine in February. That's when the LA start sorting out from last year (and not before as far as I can see). There was a distinct threat that this year they would be keeping an eye to make sure the plots were all being used, but that hasn't materialised - even the complaint I made about certain plot holders extending their boundaries so that the paths weren't accessable anymore have been ignored (I have a quarter plot, which is at the back end of the site, so have to go along the main "road" and then theoretically along a small heandland path - but in reality that headland is being grown on so have to walk through a neighbour's half plot on their path up the middle).

I got mine in April but thats when I asked and there were spare plots available. The association starts and ends in September, so I should really vote for then.

I havent officially got mine yet but will do on 1st Dec so I joined in anyway!! The year though runs from 1st April and I've been led to believe that's the usual time to take over a plot where I am (don't ask therefore why I get mine in Dec! ..).

I started with mine in Sept. last year. I think the year runs Jan to Dec, as that's how the rent is paid, but I have met two or three new plot holders in the last couple of weeks. A neighbouring plot was rotovated by some lads in the spring, a few potatoes planted, then left ... Maybe the frequent care needed through the summer (and the fast growth of weeds if you don't) puts off some people, and they decide to quit.

For me, September was a great time to start - the effort a year ago was well worth while and I've read Seahorse's recent posts with interest - stick in now and you'll definitely see the results in the spring.

Two reasons I can't vote on this, first I have obtained it in five bits, second I cannot remember which mont any of them became mine.

Our year runs from Oct 1st to Sept 30th, if you dont pay the plot is considered vacant and will be relet.

Our tenancy year is April 1st to March 31st.

However if anyone gives up or is evicted for failure to cultivate we re-let ASAP whatever the time of year as one can always do something to improve a plot, even if it is just clear the rubbish.

Our rent year runs from Jan to Dec they then send out the renewals which takes to end of Feb they then have to leave it for one month for replies. So they usually state that end of March is a good time to check on the list. I got mine in August Hmmmm???
