Default Onions

Hi everyone

Just after a bit of advice about my onions. I am new to the page and thought some of you friendly sounding people might be able to help me out.
Would you recommend growing onions in an onion bed, or rotating them around.
If I were to rotate them, would this be with the roots!!!!

Thanks in advance

Hi Janey & Welcome to the vine.

A lot depends on your soil. Usually people rotate the onions in with the root crops butI know several people who grow Onions for showing that use one bed. That having been said they are scrupulous with hygen & any plants that look diseased they fetch them out & they treat the soil with stuff like Jeyes or Armillatox to make double sure. If you have a look on the Robinsons website (http://www.exhibition-seed.info/) they have been using the same bed for 100+years!!

A lot depends on what you want to do. If you are growing you own from seed they will be clean, if your planting sets, it depends on the supplier as to whether they are clean or not, although they should be of course.

Hope this helps
