  • New allotment advice

Hi I'm still waiting for the allotment officer to come back from holiday to view the plot but today I went at the site and one couple let me inside for a a quick view. Apparently there are 2 plots there, one left this winter and one the year before. So if I will have to choose one which one you think I should get?
The one plot has Only left for one season so not that many weeds
Have a lot of raised bed 2 water butt but there are a lot of rubbish at the end and there is a tree at the back.
The other one Is bigger and no tree in there but is so weeded that I can't see bare soil but not pile of rubbish and there is a concrete shed as a bonus.
The couple advice the small one so Is kind ready to go but I don't want after a while been disappointed that I don't have the extra space. After all I'm only 27 yrs old so I can take the challage of the big one and energy to make a top notch plot in 1 or two season.
    Thanks for your help

Looks like you have already made your mind up Sarico. Go for it.

Think big, Sarico. You have a lot of seeds to sow,
      Hope you get one soon!

Take the one nearest to the water source.

Watering takes so looooong when you have to trundle back and fourth with two cans....and don't kid yourself that a water butt will be enough for an allotment....get as close as you can to the tap.

The site doesn't have a tap. I have. 8 25 lt Jerry can so 200 lt of water I can take from home and this allotment site has an access for cars. One of the plot is right on front of the gate so I could just park the car right at the gate so I don't have to carry them a long way.

I just want other people confirm my opinion.and I know that beds are good but I prefer an empty canvas so I can make my plot and not adapt to what someone else did.
I'll phone the council tomorrow just to make sure they did put forget me.

A choice of two?,,,wow...you are lucky!

Be aware that nearer the gate might mean easier access for vandals too....might be worth asking if they have had any probs like that?

I'd take the bigger one, even if it's untidy. Weeds can be hacked out in a short space of time and you don't have to do it all at once after all.

                Hi,
I agree with sparrow. Weeds can easily be dug out and you don't need to do it all at once. Plus if the big one has a shed then its a handy place to store your tools, saves carting them backwards and forwards.

Well the plot has metal fences over 2.4 meter and then there is a big metal gate to get at the plot. The plot is behind some houses and on the other side there is a school. I don't think is a big problem as well because one is next the other so not far away from the gate.

in fact I plan if I get that one to dig the weeds out and cover it and then clear it a bit at the time or cover half plot with green manure. Both have sheds but the small one has a cheap wood one and in the big out is a proper concrete shed.
