  • manure catastrophe...........

We've not been to the plot for a week and my OH went to crop some asparagus and rhubarb when he met one of our neighbours.

His 30 rows of potatoes have spindly , yellow haulms 18" high with fern-type twisted leaves at the top.
On closer inspection so too did several of the other plots!
(They look like they've been sprayed with glysophate....600 feet of them)

It turns out that they all used the 1 yr old manure which was delivered this year and it looks like it's been contaminated with something toxic.

(we always store ours for an extra year if we can so we'd used last years- thank goodness!)

Anyway- they're going to need to find out what the pollutant was and how long it'll be in the soil/watertable.

    Terrible news

Incidentally- this muck was from the same farm as the past 3 years and it's been fine up til now

    Watch out there folks!

That's terrible news. please contact the farm and let us know what the toxin was. How did it get in the manure? Was the manure stored in chemical bins or anything?

The guy who ordered the stuff and the site manager are the 2 worst affected ( we are in the plot between them!) , so our load must be just as toxic.

We'll leave them to sort out what's gone wrong as they're both miffed to say the least!
Will let you know how they get on!

Talk about trying to be organic!!
