Default Congratulations - and thankyou!

That's great Zazen, I recently took mine on - and I'm loving it. I want to thank you for leading me to this forum from a thread on another forum. I've been lurking here ever since and it's really useful. Not that I really need to be spending more time on the internet.

Jennie - didn't know I had brought you here; that's really nice! I do try and promote the Vine where I can.

Minty - ours is over here in Shardlow; within a 5 min walk as well so quite chuffed.

We do grow veg out by the canal in raised beds, and grew loads last year; but I can now save those for the more 'special' fruit and veg; and use the lottie for the more spaced out stuff. And the moon trial of course!!

Just so happy as I have about 100 tubers of spuds in the garage and he told me last week we wouldn't have one until at least May - so they can go in as soon as possible.

That's great news! Now is a pretty good time to get an allotment, especially if it's not too overgrown - you can get straight in there with some planting and feel like you're making progress. We got ours in July two years ago, and the ground was like rock - I thought we'd need a mattock to cultivate it!

Congratulations! There's nothing quite like a new lottie - all those plans, all that potential. Great news.

Yes!

I have the signed tenancy agreement; and not only did the guy show up but he had allocated one very one we wanted to us.

Photo attached.

They are rotavating it in the next fortnight, so we can pick the roots out then and start making paths etc.

As I was waiting, the tenant next to me turned up - she has no knowledge of growing veg at all; so I'll introduce her to this forum [if she has the internet - she lives on a boat on the marina round the corner from us].

I've worked out the beds already, I can fit 3 lots of 3 thin beds in; with a stop gap for the peas/beans and a stop gap for the compost heap.

So, spuds will hopefully be going in in a couple of weeks, along with the first set of brassicas and some seed onions that arrived last week.

And all for £15 a year. Bargain.

We don't have water; he did say he felt embarrassed to charge us that much [the fees went up apparently to £15 this year] and the old timers are a bit mad at them going up to pay for our rotavating!!!

We are allowed a shed, and we could keep chickens and rabbits; and they are putting water in but not sure which decade that's planned for. They only have to sink a borehole as the Derwent is about 20 feet away.

Great news! Sorry I missed this when it was originally posted. You must have it all sorted by now though right?

I'm fast but not that fast!!!

I can't get over the photo of what I first thought was Morrisey - jumping!!! Talk about achieving the impossible.

We were going to do it all ourselves, but if the man is coming to rotavate for us; for the sake of a fortnight I'll let him get on with it. Just going up there in a few mins to measure up and try and save the 2 wooden chairs that we want to save for our cups of tea. I'm going to buy us 2 flasks this weekend as well!!!

The only thing is that I now have to redo all my plans on what is going where. Need more squared paper and a spare evening to plot it all out.

thank's for reading the blog and as you see it's not impossible ,but just takes time.
Planning is an inportant stage and you will change your mind lots of times and that's not a bad thing as your choices will also change.
On important thing is do as much as you can with out making it a chore and it don't matter how long it takes to get right as after all i'm in year 2 and i've 1 more to go to get it close to workable.
Good luck with your endevor

We had a mini-lottie since last April, as the house we bought has a garden attached - well - it is about 20 feet away by the canal. We rotavated it, I put raised beds in and my OH put weed fabric and bark down. We decided on 5 beds and a load of borders. i must admit, we loved it last year, but it just wasn't big enough for all the staples that we want to grow.

This one is much bigger but as long as they rotavate it - we should be well away. But after waiting since mid summer - I am impatient and just want to get beds laid out and some fabric down to walk on.

If it looks anything like our garden [pic below] in a few months, I'll be a very happy bunny.

Oh wow, congratulations, I'm soooooo jealous. My father in law got allocated his lottie today and I went with him to look at it. On the phone the lady said it was in a bit of a state which I read to mean it was doing a good impression of the local dump, but when we got there it was lovely, all rotivated and neat. The plot next to him looks like its being divided into two plots, so I'm going to phone the lady tomorrow and see if theres any chance I could have a half plot Good luck, hope it goes well for you
