Hi all,i am thinking about getting an allotment but just wondered what livestock you are all allowed to keep on yours,eg goats,chickens,pigs sheep ect.If you are allowed at all that is.

Of the three sites on which I have held allotments over the years, one had a no livestock rule, one had hens and rabbits only and one had bees only. Each is different, you will need to speak to your committee and see what the rules say - it will all have been written up at some point!

Agree with TPeers. There was, until recently, a goat on our site and this has now moved on with its owner. The council has now instigated a no livestock rule except for anything already in situ and bees are another subject altogether which I won't start on.

There's some near me with goats on, it's a parish council run one but think it's a local agreement - would be able to tell you if I ever managed to get a plot but that's a different thread all together...............

There's an old goat on our site as well ... but he says he's packing up soon

I think there is no hard and fast rules of the sites local to me 5 say no livestock (1 private & 4 council run) 1 chooks only ( council run) 1 anything you like as long as you pay - Private

I think a lot depends on where they are located. The one that is anything goes is in the arse of nowhere so so neighbours the chooks only is between some houses, the cemetry & an industrial estate so two out of the three won't complain.
