Strim right down and cover with heavy cardboard (from somewhere like Halfords - bicycle boxes, or electrical retailers)
This will keep the weeds from growing, and you can dig a bit at a time. Try to get something planted as soon as you have got a bed cleared.Comment

I know it looks a bit daunting but I have seen much worse, including mine when I first got it.
Personally, I think a strimmer would be the way to go. Maybe you could hire one if you don't know anyone you could borrow from.Comment

I am in exactly same situation
That looked like pic of my allotment I am going to start working this coming weekend.
I have bought woven weed fabric off amazon .
Once i plant my veggies through the fabric, how do i water them ????
may be i didnt think it through and through before buying
I have been saving lot of cardboards too as allotment is big size and I cant buy fabric for whole of it.

It doesn't look to bad, no obviously bad seeds as far as I can seeds. Strimming seems a good idea if you can get your hands on one, if not just cut it down and cover it if you can and start work on preparing a couple of beds at a time. Its alway nice to see something growing, throw some spuds in if nothing else, it also motivates you whilst you work on more beds.Comment

Thanks for all the advice ( even the sheep ) have strimmed it all, and covered a section, will start digging a small area and sow some potatoes so I have something growing while working on the rest. Must admit do feel good with what I have got done and now having idea's on how I want my lottie to grow.

re cardboard, Iceland usually has a ton of cardboard boxes they are happy for you to have, get there before 5pm though as the boxes are taken away by the delivery lorriesComment
