Default Blackberry allotment

Hi everyone,
I've got an opportunity to get an allotment, which I'm very excited about. The only problem is - it's FULL of brambles. The committee have cut the brambles down, but all the roots are still there, of course. Does anyone have advice on how to go about getting them out / dealing with this allotment?

Yes, I had a lot of brambles too. I just dug them out, over and over till they were all gone. Its really hard work, so get some help if you can ... supply beer/cake/tea for your workers
If you don't have help, don't try and do the whole plot at once. Clear a bit, then plant it or cover it with thick cardboard or old carpet till you can plant it.
Persevere, you will beat it... my plot was completely clear of bramble after a season, you just gotta keep at it.
