 2nd Crop Potato Hi, Just got a brochure from Dobbies which gives details of 2nd crop potatos that you plant in August and crop upto December. I had never heard of them before (only been lottying for a year), any one got any experience of these. Are they worth doing? Cheers Steve G      |

| It depends very much on the season. One year I got a fantastic crop, another time they were rubbish - it was quite a blighty season. You can do the same by planting some of your last lifted earlies in August. They grow for about 12 weeks then need covering or moving to a greenhouse because they won't survive a frosting. Leave them in the pots, and lift on Christmas morning!

| I'm with flum on this! It depends on the season, the area you live in and whether you can give frost protection. I have some Anya seed potatoes that I am trying to hold back for planting but they are starting to shrivel now!  Any early type of potato will do but the waxy varieties like Charlotte seem to fair the best.........or you could invest in Carlingford (should be marketed as 'PROBABLY' the best Christmas potato)!
