Raised beds can fit any space – no matter how small or awkwardly-shaped! Simply find a spot and work around the space available. The EverEdge EasyBed is supplied in packs of 95cm long lengths. These lengths can be joined together to create a square, hexagon, triangle, or rectangle of any length. The clever hinged joint system makes installation incredibly quick and simple, too.

The path less travelled

Raised beds eradicate soil compaction because the area is unspoiled by welly boots, and there’s no need to step on your growing space. Placed strategically, you’ll be able to work around the bed without crossing it. But why is soil compaction so bad, you ask? Well, when you tread on the soil over and over, air pockets are squashed and the earth becomes hard and dense. This makes it difficult for water, air and nutrients to reach the roots of your fruit and veg crops – so light, untrodden soil provides much healthier growing conditions.

Optimal drainage

Raised beds also provide excellent drainage. Situated higher than ground level, coupled with the lack of soil compaction, water can drain more freely through the bed and into the earth below your fruit and veg. This greatly reduces the risk of waterlogging, lowering the chance of root rot and other plant ailments.

Running start

Plus, you can get started earlier in the season – the soil within a raised bed is generally warmer than that in the ground, encouraging earlier germination. Take advantage of this head start and you could be harvesting a lot earlier than your plot neighbours!

When it comes to choosing your raised bed, it’s important to consider what will stand firm out in the elements.
