Any clues. I saw it on the common. The only thing that came to mind was stickhorn but it definitely seems more plant than fungi

My guess would be one of the inkcaps - Shaggy Ink Cap, Lawyers Wig, Judges Wig, Coprinus comatus

Seems a bit early for fungi to be sprouting?

I think it will turn into a flower spike of some kind - if my memory was better I might be able to suggest a name - as it is unless anyone knows, we'll have to wait and see.

Some kind of saprophytic plant? What else is growing nearby?

Agreed. I thought it might be butterbur, but broomrape seems a better fit.
