  • Long Tailed Tit--no photo

Long Tailed Tit visited feeders 3 times this morning, too quick for me, hence, no photo.
Feed the soil, not the plants.

I sometimes get a whole new family of these tits tweeting their way through my orchard in late Summer, the adults teaching the youngsters to find aphids etc - it always amazes me to think who they all got arranged in their nest not much bigger than a tennis-ball - must have been a lot of tails in eyes.

They come here too, in the cold weather, to feed on the fat balls - about a dozen at a time, tails poking out at all angles.
I call them lollipops, little round bodies on long sticks - the sort we used to lick as kids on the way to school.

So far they've eluded my camera too!

Here they quite often travel in mobs with other tits and nuthatches. It's really fascinating watching them go from tree to tree.

            Incidentally they aren't true tits.
