  • Long Grass

If you have long grass round a pond don't be too tidy and cut it down just yet.

The dragonfly Lubella Depressa, or the one with the shortish blue body (male) and golden if it is a female, are just emerging and the nymphs like to come right out of the pond into long grass for the dragonfly to emerge. They will travel some way. I have found them 12 meters from the pond, that was when I was being too tidy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree, even if you haven't any dragon-flies the lower few centimetres of long grass tends to remain cool and damp, even on quite hot days, and makes a perfect microclimate for amphibians.
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.
