I read a while ago about putting a bit of vinegar in the trap to keep bees away,I’ve never made a trap though,I don’t really get wasps here, also I thought it was red that they were disinterested in,I just found this article & it says
“Wasps are also attracted by certain colours, especially white and yellow. Like most insects, they cannot see the colour red”
Want to ward off wasps? Wear red trousers... or tie a paper bag to the nearest tree. And DON'T wear aftershave | Daily Mail Online

This one says the same to wear,it’s a shame the experts can’t all agree?
“To avoid contact with wasps, never work in the yard or garden wearing yellow or white, since these colors attract insects. Many insects cannot see red, making it a good color to wear when working in the yard.”

      ....just goes to show eh?

Interestingly whilst we were having lunch outside at a friend's today there were a couple of wasps flying around the food.
She rushed indoors and brought out a bowl of cloves and placed it in the centre of the table saying it put off wasps.
Never saw another one for the next couple of hours.

Never heard of that before...but interestly it seemed to work.
Certainly worth a try...I'd be interested to see if it works for anyone else.

France does have a lot of active 'folk law/remedies ' almost forgotten in the UK.

I've never heard of cloves to deter wasps either, but when I goggled it, lots of sites came up, so it seems quite common knowledge in some places.

Mostly the cloves are studded in a lemon, I note, which reminds me my grandmother studded cloves in oranges and hung them in the wardrobes to keep moths away, so probably what works for one works for the other.

Is that cloves as in pinks or cloves as in spice or cloves as in garlic?
