  • Fallen and bruised apples.

I’m sure lots of you good folks do this but just a reminder —

Any fallen and bruised apples underneath your Apple trees or scabby or bird pecked - please cut in half and freeze some. When hard frosts appear or snow falls in the coming winter unfreeze some apples every other day and throw on the ground outside. In really tough prolonged freezing weather your apples may just be the difference between life and death for a local blackbird whose song earlier this summer made you smile.

    Great advice, thank you

I have loads of windfalls and I'd rather the blackbirds have them than the hornets

I don't freeze mine but I do collect them and store them in the shed, already started(you could also use them to make cider if not too bruised)

I try to discourage the birds.
I have a very fast and intelligent cat.
