  • chick id and help please!!

Out neighbour 2 doors down (the ones who got our old chicken coop) dropped a chick off at mine to see if I could either help it or put it out of it's misery. it's downy feathers are gone and the true feathers are just starting to appear. It has a flattish beak. It has a tiny bit of blood on it's wing and at the point where the wing attches to the body, at the top part it has a small wound on either side. It's sibling was dead. Can Anyone identify and advise what to do? It was very cold so I popped in the incubator to thaw out and now it's asleep. sorry the close up is very fuzzy

Never test the depth of the water with both feet

in hertfordshire? but looks that type of beak. the feet are not webbed though
Hopefully if we can identify, and it survives the night, perhaps, we'll know what to feed/ or where to go to get it looked after

How far are you from the nearest landfill site? More gulls there than at the coast!

Ok, lets be logical. Not a hen, no webbed feet so not a duck. Clearly not a raptor and the gape looks wrong for a songbird - what does that leave?

was quite surprised at the size of the beak, quite big for it's size...

should I leave it in the incubator or move it out? will it being there hurt my eggs that are half way done now?

Don't know if it will hurt the eggs, but they survive being sat on by mum......

I'd give it overnight and phone the RSPCA in the morning to ask for advice.

Are you near any large bodies of water? It couldn't be a heron chick?
