  • Cheap wild flowers.

    Hey guys,

    Hope this is allowed.....

I thought I would just share some of the stuff Ive been getting, normally Im quite dubious buying stuff from china japan etc etc and brace myself for carp stuff when the post man comes but thought Id try these out.

Ive been after some wild flowers just to sprinkle out the back beside the public walk way (idea being Ill pull out the nettles which will go to good use of course, and sprinkle nice soft flowers and they will take over instead of the nettles) as the kids play out there and have been fairly damaged in the past.

Ive been getting the large bags over this year from the shops but tbh I think they have been blown away and most was just dust!

Any who I bought a little bage for £0.99 off ebay and there is no dust, and Im quite pleased they have came in a 2 by 3 zip lock bag and its all seeds of different kinds.

Links below if you would like any.

They won't though. Wildflowers do not compete well, and hardly anything competes well against nettles.

You need to pull all the nettle roots out first, and then keep on pulling out the nettles as they appear.

ah right, well Ill do that this summer I could use them for plant feed, or have a bash at nettle tea. Heard its good for you and seen as we are going on diets in the new year they might do us some good. xx

It might be worth starting some of the seeds in modules and then potting them on so that when you have cleared the nettles you can put plants in as well as sprinkle some seeds.

Nettle tea is a good nitrogen rich feed too. For your leafy crops.

Yes, that's well worth doing. It's the only way, unless your ground is virgin soil

I bought a huge box of wildflower seeds from one of the pound shops and there was sawdust in it - so you could see where you'd sown I suppose. They were fabulous! We got poppies, corn flowers, love in a mist and borage - which I recognised, and tonnes of stuff which I didn't. I'm hoping they have self seeded for next year, but I got these lovely pink trumpet shaped (a bit like poison ivy) flowers and amazing tiny blue ones, stuff which looked like gypsophilia and calendula. I will definitely be buying more this year.
You may say I'm a dreamer... But I'm not the only one...

I'm an official nutter - an official 'cropper' of a nutter! I am sooooo pleased to be a cropper! Hurrah!

yeah I tried the pound shop one it was terrible, Im sure thats where that strange tomato plant I found came from (suppose I got one seed )

The ground where Im gonna put the seed has not been used for a good 30-50 years. There is some trees there but nothing flower like just nettles, its covered in small stones. I put some nasturtiums I had left over from my gardening last year out there but I think the old man down the street stamped on them as they were doing great then dead, squashed! Think he is jealous of my fab taste in flowers haha
