Have heard over the years how the little charming red breasted Robins were fiercely territorial and would even kill intruders. Had never seen this brutality until today. Looked out and saw a Robin pecking and dancing over the corpse of one of its fellows. Sad innit

At this time of year there is a greater chance of it as the food supply is limited. Not enough for 2 to get through the winter, so the fight was in effect for survival.
I have a garden for wildlife and also get Robins nesting, can get amusing when 2 are in the garden and one is trying to avoid confrontation while eating whatever I have put out. One disappers in one half and suddenly one appears some distance away. Have the suspicion I am the boundry of 3 or possibly 4 terriatories, have seen 4 in the garden at one time. -
It is unfortunately in their nature but they are a lovely bird. I have one that visits my alotment quick is quite brave, it will actually come on my hand and eat grubs I had dug up.Comment

Have heard they behave a lot different in Europe then in the UK, recall some mention from Belgium and they interact with people much less. So I could imagine the difference carries over to territory as well.
Doesn't seem to be they accept people in gardens only as around a reserve I can often stand close to robins and they have no problem with my presence whereas other species will have disappeared.Comment
