  • Any luck with nest boxes this year?

I've got six in total; four in trees, one in a beech hedge, and one wall mounted low down under ivy. This last is a wooden open-fronted box, while the others are moulded 'woodcrete' material.
The wood box: nothing. The hedge box is a haven for mice it seems. And of the other boxes, I've got nuthatches x1 pair, blue tits x1 pair.
I've got coal tits nesting in a shrub by the front door (unperturbed by our activity it seems). And an as yet unidentified pair seen darting in and out of a gap under the eave of the garage roof.
And last week I found what I presume to be a pheasant egg laid in a divot scratched in the lawn. The middle of the lawn.. a solitary egg. No cover whatsoever. What a daft place to lay an egg! Pheasants really are dumb birds.
Anyway, who have you had come to stay?

I have had a family of robins down the allotment. Just the one brood though.

I put a pile of logs and sticks along my allotment fence to weigh down the bottom of the windbreak, and noticed there's a pair of blackbirds nesting among the sticks. Thankfully the nest is hidden by some long grass, so I'm hoping the allotment cat doesn't find them.
