  • Bumblebee delivery today

Had an email yesterday telling me my Bumblebees will be delivered sometime today <gulp> which I'm taking down the lottie same as last year. They will have plenty of flowers to go at as my Broad Beans are in full flower.

Have noticed alot of Bumbles this year already on the plot and hoping some of them were from last years hive as I did witness a queen emerge and get attacked by a drone but didn't realise what was happening at first.

Just dread the bit where you let them out as with my luck I'll get stung by one lol.

Drones attacking a queen? That's not a good flirting tactic!

Anyway, what a lovely thing to do. Hope the release goes OK.

          Got the girls delivered today.

Small hive is installed in the back garden and they are in their lodge for the night but not allowed out yet, planning to let them out in the early morning. This year I'm going to film the first ones emerging and mapping their location before leaving to forage.

Location is ready for the large hive on the lottie, I'll be going over to there in the morning to install the hive bracket, roof shade and Clematis as extra cover and put them in their location and let them out on Friday morning. Hive will be off the ground as a Badger attacked it last year and the colony was a bit upset to say the least for a few weeks. It was on a paving slab last year so don't want a repeat this year else I will be looking for Badger recipes.
