  • A beehive in the garden

Has anybody here got a beehive in their garden ?

I recently attended a beekeeping course, but now realise my garden wouldn't really be suitable. OK, it would be all right for a single hive, but I think I would like more than one.

I am now looking for a suitable spot in my part of the world.

As reported in the recent press, the populations of honey bees are in serious decline, so anything we can do to help will greatly benefit both the bees and us too ... The bees pollinate man of our crops.

    Regards

I have 5 occupied and 3 vacant in my garden. There for three years. No problems..(but then I have fields on 2 sides and an ex farmer as a neighbour - our only adjacent neighbour)

Tried to keep them on my allotment, first the council said I had to get written consent from all the other plot holders, so it took me seven months to talk 37 other plot holder into it, took some to see hives for real, and get their signatures on pre-printer agreement slips. On giving them to the allotment officer, she came back with a NO BEES ON ALLOTMENTS ruling from her boss.
So much for the council website where they profess to being pro wildlife, eco-friendly.
