  • Slug and Snail Barriers - tin cans?

Does anyone have any experience of using an ordinary tin can with each end cleanly removed (no sharp edges) and used as a barrier defence against slug/snail invasion?

I know that copper is effective - but wondered if any metal would do. I've just emptied a tinned sponge pud and it seems like a perfect cuff to place around a juvenile plant with its end buried beneath the soil.

Would it be possible to spray the can with copper paint or is that simply not cost effective or even effective at all?

    Thank You.

i guess you could use the tin, but find an old piece of wire, strip it, and tie the copper wire around the tin, about 3 times ..... then if the tin doesn't work, hopefully the copper will

and if it doesn't work like that, you could always plug it into the mains
