  • Red tinted leaves on honeysuckle

    Hi everybody,

I have red spots which takes over the complete leaves on my honeysuckle plant. I had the same issue with the neighbouring blackberrry last year but not this year.
What causes this? Is it poor nutrition or a disease?

    Cheers

Its a fungus disease - tends to be worse when these plants are growing in dry, sunny places. I have a honeysuckle against a house wall which gets something similar, whereas the ones planted out in the open garden are much less of a problem. Best bet might be to grow another climber with it to provide some camouflage as its likely to recur next year, perhaps a clematis ?

Thank you for your reply, I need to look after this one as it is the most neglected one. Maybe a fungisite and feed during autumn, need to research

You can mitigate the problem a bit, but its more or less impossible to cure it completely - if its like mine it will grow again fine next Spring and then come down with the same problem again at around this time of year. I decided to grow a jasmine through mine to camouflage the affected parts.
