  • Advice re books

This is probably a dumb question ! but am full of them !!!! i have a couple of good veg growing books, for each veg its list type of soil, how to grow etc, then mentions the pests and diseases that affect the plant, is there a book in print that shows pictures !!! of what these diseases and pest look like ? as i get myself in a right tizz thinking my plants have whatever disease from the written description, but then it turns out it isnt

I have to say that the books aren't a patch on what the Vine can do - especially if you can post a picture of the problem! Google search can be handy too, but you need to know roughly what pest you are looking for before you start!
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

I have a little book called "PESTS & DISEASES" by AURA, it's priced at around £3.00, it's a great reference book with photos and great, practical advice. You can buy it from most garden centers.

I went to the garden centre, local to where i work in my dinner break today, to see what delights they had in !!! they sell books just a few piled up on a table, and i spied one " how to get rid of garden pests and diseases, by Andrew Mikolajski its great covers veg, trees, etc with full descriptions of symptoms, then pictures of the offending bug and damage it causes, prevention / treatment (organic or chemical ). Great reference book, was 4.99 !! only thing i dont like is the close up pictures of some nasty looking creatures !

The RHS book 'Pests & Diseases' by Pippa Greenwood and Andrew Halstead shows pictures of the most common of pests and diseases, also beneficial insects some larvae of which could be confused with pests so I've found that handy.
