  • Late May Bank Holiday 2008

Well, it's Bank Holiday Monday and the weather is on form! Cold, windy and wet!! Doing a bit of virtual gardening on the Vine. Lots of bits blown off the apple tree, and the oriental poppy's collapsed (was going to tie it up yesterday, but it was raining then as well. Should have made the effort)

Sunny here (grits teeth - want rain!!!) but fiercely windy. Managed to tie up some beans and the sweet peas. Could do with a gentle warm rain. Don't want much do I?

from Times Online: "Ever since 1967, when Harold Wilson’s Government replaced the moveable Whitsun holiday with a fixed one in late spring, this has been a thoroughly nerve-racking holiday, with 27 of the 40 so far having been spoilt by heavy rain."

What a lovely day!!!Just got back from Wrest Park Garden show, got absolutely soaked and frozen.A lot of the exhibitors had packed up and gone home,so there wasn't half as much as there usually is.Oh well,I did buy an interesting plant I'd not seen before,Berkheya Purpurea-Silver Spikes.Anyone know it? It's a spikey silvery leafed monster-looks really different. Also got Cat nip plant for my new cat-he should like that when it stops raining.

Sorry to hear about your rainy bank holiday. It was sunny here all day but very windy. We have our bank holiday to look forward to next Monday. Watch this space for a weather update on another bank holiday.
