  • Dodgy weather continues

In the normally balmy southeastern corner of Blighty the weather today has been heavy, ice cold rain throughout the night, morning, and into this afternoon, blustery wind, and temperature this morning was a chilly 3 Celsius at around 10.30am. Where did spring go?

I'm not totally convinced there wasn't a teeny bit of frost last night... (in the area of deepest shade one of the cars had a bit on it)

It went as low as 2.5C last night, so would be frosty wherever there was no cloud cover and the wind dropped. Frosts are likely until mid-May here (search for Ice Saints days) but the cold during the day WAS unusual, I agree.
      Warming up today though

Definite ground frost here - even a thin layer of ice on some shallow puddles - dodged a bullet on some potatoes I have outside in bags - I think probably the high sides on the bags protected the shoots, which are about 6" high on some of them.

There's been a ground frost here for the past 2 nights. Thankfully I've been making the trek from the tunnel to the house with trays of tomatoes and chilies - though to be fair the couple that I left behind seem to be surviving ok.

Frost on the shed and car roof this morning, registered 0.7 in the tunnel. Nice and sunny now though

Funny - I carried out all my chillies and tomatoes this morning again to the tunnel - in the sun - and left the door open and went to work.

About midday the clouds came over, the temperature dropped and the rain came down.

By good fortune I hadn't wedged the door open properly and it has blown shut so when I came home from work just now - everything was just fine

It was a low of 3.2c in my GH overnight we'd got frost of the trailer covers and puddles. then this afternoon its been 28c in there.
My toms and cucs will be staying on the windows sills overnight for some time at this rate.

Weather for June so far in the Midlands have been poor. I don't think I'm going to get a good harvest. So sad
