  • Would I be cheating

Last year I had a surplus of green tomatoes so decided to make some chutney with them and very nice it was.
Recently I found a jar what I had left over and wonder if it was still ok to eat.
Having a stomach like a tank decided to taste it and to my surprise it was lovely.
With it been our show this weekend was thinking of entering it but would it be cheating with it been allowed to marinade for the last 12 months.

No, chutney should be left to age, so long as the labelling (date, contents, etc) comply with the rules I'd put it in

...........As BB said, Jonny ~ as long as it's all labelled, can't see why you can't enter it...! Good luck!!

Chutney shouldn't be eaten "fresh" best wait until matured for about 3months at the earliest. Go for it! Bet it tastes delicious!

In total agreement with all else! A "Chutney" is a preserve, and preserved it you have!

Go for it, a chutney needs months to mature. As long as your label is dated correctly then I can see no problem at all.
