    wilkinsons seed potatoes

    was in wilkies today, and i got 3 bags of seed potatoes, ..... £3 per 3kg bag, dunno if that's good or not, but saves on postage, i got arran pilot, rocket and desiree, oh and a small pack of 5 roosters for a pound, ........ no idea where i'm going to plant that many spuds though

    was going to check the recommendations out first, but then thought knowing my luck they'd probably be gone next time i'm in town, so hope they are all alright??

    i also got 3 packs of 3 strawberry plants £2 each pack , and a couple of black currant bushes for £1 each.

    they seem to have a really good range of fruit bushes this year, all £4 and under (kiwis, cranberries, raspberries, grapes, blueberries and others) ....... so may pop back in a couple of weeks for some more, i'm determined to get lots of yummy fruit this year

    now all i have to do is start trying to get my head round doing something with the garden so i can plant them all ...... the motivation still isn't there lol.

    If you are short of space and can't fit them all in, I'd give the rocket the heave ho - even though they are super duper early, they are also super duper DULL tastewise, in my view.

    I've not grown roosters, but I think that they've had a taste thumbs up on here before now...

      damn ...... i got them cos they were super early ...... i'll fit em in somewhere ..... probably ....... i'm not growing as many different varieties of other things this year, as i did grow lots of stuff that i really wasn't fussed over last year,

      i did think i'd read something about roosters being good, so thought i'd get some oh well at least i got one lot right lol (they didn't have big bags of those)

      they did have other varieties, but i went for super early, cos apparently they are ready in 8 weeks, then some earlies, and some main crop (still haven't got my head round all that yet, cos last year i just chucked some in from the supermarket)

        That's why I got them! Mine were ready in 10 or 11 weeks, rather than 8, though.

          oh well i'll give em a go, the chooks won't mind if they don't taste great ..... they eat slugs, their taste buds can't be that good

            Never tasted slugs, but snails in garlic butter are booful. Maybe your chooks know something we don't?

                I had seed pots from wilkos last year and they were absolutely fine. Think they were an early but can't remember the name.

                  I was hoping to find Wilko's had their gardening stuff come in

                  That's my Saturday morning planned.

                  Can you remember what else they had Lynda?

                  I have rocket, and swift on my list for this year.

                  Pentland Javelin are worth a go if you come across any

                    I had some from wilko's last year they wer'nt as good as the ones i got from wyevale. Maybe i was unlucky.
                    I also got a redcurrent bush that still looks like a stick, it has'nt grown much even though I have lavished lots of love and care. I have bought some swede seeds last year they are slightly slow growing but it maybe how cold it has been! Good luck and let us know how you get on.

                      ermmm they had pink fir apple in 5 packs, and some others .......and i think maris piper/peer, and a couple of others in 3kg packs, (there were 5-7 varieties of each size pack) sorry can't remember the varieties don't remember swift though , they have onions, garlic, and even asparagus and artichoke,

                      oh and they have jumped on the bandwagon with grow your own buckets containing a bit of soil and some seeds for about £8 lol ....... loads more stuff than they had last year,

                      the blackcurrants i got have buds on ....... spudstacker, all the fruit bushes i bought last year, still look like sticks, like anywhere with plants, best to get em when they fresh in, and check they don't look dead before you buy em

                      my swedes are only just swelling, whereas the turnips in the next bed have all done now, they are much slower apparently, got lots of seeds from there last year, and they mostly seemed fine.

                      i haven't got a wyevale or in fact any garden centre in walking distance, so it's either these or buy online for me, so this saves postage ........ and at £3 i'm happy as long as they grow

                        there was me thinking i had no taste buds,i planted some rocket last year,and was not impressed at all,would definatly NOT bother with them again,

                          This will be my first year growing tatties and I don't have a lottie, so it's going to be raised beds and containers in the back garden. Got 3 of the 5-packs from Wilkos for a quid each, Charlotte, Nicola & Roosters. When should I start chitting them?
