  • what's wrong with my Courgette's?

    Hey,
Can anyone tell me what's wrong with my Corgettes? I have pictures but unfortunatly am unable to post them.
I was thinking it might be cucumber mosaic virus (cause I always think the worst!) but then there's no yellow mottling of the leaves. Just brown spotting which spreads and then the leaves eventually curl under and wither away. I guess they look a little yellow towards the end.
Also in the last week or so some of the other unspotted leaves have developed a 'whiteness' along the veins of the leaves.
Am I worrying needlessly or should the plants be destroyed?

The courgettes don't look too bad to me. I would wait and see if you get courgettes.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

Hi Missymoo, The one with the white veins looks fairly healthy but not sure about the others. Could be anything from under/over watering, sun scorch ,disease or nothing at all. Are there any signs of red spider mite or any pests on the leaves? If you can't find anything & the plants still have other healthy looking leaves coming through I would just take off the dodgy looking ones & see how the plants do. Sometimes when the plants are older odd leaves get powdery mildew or just curl up & die & I usually just take these off & give the plants a feed to boost them up.
Into every life a little rain must fall.

Mine had plain green leaves but today I noticed yellowish spots over many of them, I think it may be because of the LITTLE BIT of rain we have had here.

I cannot possible believe that it can rain anymore - I'm not normally fussed about the weather (prefering sunshine though obviously!) but I am pig sick of the wet! I can't even hoe because it's so wet and the weeds are laughing at me!

Missymoo, I wouldn't worry about the white veins unless you're not getting any new growth or it's shrivelling up and dying. My courgettes have done the same the past couple of years and are still growing like stink. Your other problem may be too much direct sunlight. They will frazzle quite easily in hot sun. Good luck.

Thanks guys! Can't believe how wrapped up I get with these plants. The slightest hint of disease or pests and I think it's the end of the world!! A bit like having kids I guess.

It could well be too much sun as I've been putting them out each day in a spot thats shady only in the morning. Think I'll take the affected leaves off, give them a feed and cross my fingers!

I know what you mean. It's so exciting waiting for the seeds to germinate, then watching the little seedlings poking their heads above the soil, and then a few days later if they start sickening it's so depressing...!
