  • Whats Eating my Brocolli???????

    HELP
What is eating my brocolli?? To me they look like a vine weevil, little black and brown beetle like things that can fly, they are eating all the green seed/flower bits off my brocolli, now my cauliflowers are coming through they are starting on them too.
If it is vine weevil, has anyone tried the biological/ natural way of treating them by eating the larvae, but will they get rid of the adults too?
    PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HHHHHEEELLLLLPPPPPPP

_ I've still not got the hang of photos...so this will be my New Year's resolution if I've not sorted it by then!!
Am willing to try to help, but a photo /description would make things easier!!

ooer! It's definitely not vine weevil as they can't fly so that's one crossed off the list but without a photo couldn't really say.........

Could it be flea beetle? The diagram I'm looking at in the new veg. expert has flea beetle as a black thing with two yellow stripes along the body. The leaves are holey, though it does say it is a serious pest especially in April and May.
Looking in one of Bob Flowerdew's books, suggests waving a piece of sticky fly paper overhead - do they jump/fly when disturbed?

            HI,
No they don't fly when disturbed, don't think they do fly, will try to get a photo, but they are delicate as in, if you pick one of, it breaks really easily, about the size of a brocolli green (seed/flower) bit on end of stalk. Don't like water, after bad rain, found loads dead in brocolli, so have power showered the heads and wrapped fleece around them, looks (touch wood) to have solved a small problem.
Will get photos, then hopefully we can get this 'bug'ger identified and sorted!!

It sounds like it might be pollen beetle, small black shiny round/oval ish in shape. Not a lot you can do about them i'm afraid - sounds like the water did the trick - keep them covered with fleece or enviromesh.
There's vegetable growing in the family, but I must be adopted
              Happy Gardening!
