  • what would you use

I have a number of onion sets to plant, and I also have a bag of sixX manure, along with a box of pelleted feeding which looks similar to grow more but the N,P,K is 16, 16, 16. I will be using both in the garden as I don't like wasting money (that will surprise some of you) what would you use, and why baring in mind both will be added to the soil whither directly to the soil or via the compost bin
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

I've not been able to use chicken pellets as it drives the foxes wild and they dig everything up. but I have found if I use it in conjunction with FREE coffee grounds, the little darlings don't notice the smell of the chicken pellets. The other thing I use is Comfrey Feed, again because it's FREE.

I like FREE it's my favourite price, Ummm perhaps I have some Scottish in my DNA waddya think Rary?

I find 6x quite hard to gauge, you need to be careful with it. I added it to a trench under my garlic and it was too strong, causing the young plants to split. Although it looks like farmyard manure, you have to treat it more as a fertiliser than a growing medium - add to the soil, mix in, leave for a few weeks before planting.
Apparently it makes a good liquid feed.

Onions benefit from a more nitrogen biased feed Rary. Makes sense when you think every leaf adds an extra layer to the bulb. I use 6X chicken pellets.
