  • What organic vegetable feed do you use?

Just wondering what (pref organic) veg feed people use for brassicas, tomatoes and leeks. This year the nettle tea i used for my greens wasn't that great. My leeks are struggling and ive no idea what i can give them for a growth spurt. And also tomatoes, last year i used a comfrey tea and this year ive decided to use a regular tomato feed but really would prefer something more organic. So any tips on the above please would be great xxxx

I use Maxicrop which I've been very pleased with. Both the tomato feed and the growth one. It looks like a deep and rich colour and very concentrated whereas some I've tried seem very weak solutions.
LOVE growing food to eat in my little town back garden. Winter update: currently growing overwintering onions, carrots, lettuce, chard, salad leaves, kale, cabbage, radish, beetroot, garlic, broccoli raab, some herbs.

BFB (Blood, fish and Bone) sprinkled around plants is an organic way of feeding with both quick and slow release nutrients!

I use a 6x, comfry, seaweed tea, I have an old 30lt. stainless steel urn into which I have put an old pair of tights filled with 6x in one leg and comfry leaves in the other and seaweed into the leg of another pair, I then filled up with water and draw from this, I add about 50mls to a 2gal. watering can for feeding my tomatoes and flower baskets, I also add any liquid I get from a wormery to the solution
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

I have 2 x 6ft Drainpipes fastened to the fence which each have a jam jar attached to the bottom, the tubes are filled with Comfrey leaves, the leaves are compressed with a sand filled container & the resultant liquid is poured into the water butts.

Depending what I have in the shed, what it's going on and if I think it needs it I use BFB (a good all rounder), Chicken manure pellets (would provide a boost for your leeks), Maxicrop seaweed concentrate (the general purpose one, it goes mainly on toms but beet crops love it). Vitax Grow Organic (another good all rounder) and on occasion Hoof & Horn (for a nitrogen boost).
And, almost forgot, old Jack my neighbour gave a me a bottle of comfrey concentrate.

I have a couple of airtight buckets with taps which I use to make comfrey concentrate (the one without water). I also use Blood Fish for a general boost or if you want a nitrogen boost dried blood.

Whey has also been used as a fertiliser as it's high in proteins and therefore nitrogen although not used it myself

As BM Comfrey Pipe second one about to be erected at second plot. here are details on how it was constructed http://cadalot-allotment.blogspot.co...frey-pipe.html and here is the weight Alans Allotment: 3rd August 2013 so I get comfrey concentrate

I also have two water butts made of plastic dustbins one for comfrey with an aerator to reduce/ kill the stench so I have comfrey on draft and the other for nettle tea and I use plastic sweet tin tea bags for the leafs for that one.

Very ingenious Cadalot, if not a trifle smelly I would think? Possibly a close fitting lid on top might help although you will get smell from where its dripping.

I think I've grown immune to the smell of comfrey and nettle feeds, Mr Pots hasn't he goes indoors as soon as I lift the lid of the buckets.

If you've got comfrey growing then just chop it up and use it as a mulch. It'll break down and give them a bit of extra nutrients.

There is a lid or cap it's on the end of the rope from the weight see photo.

Actually the concentrate out of the pipe and into the milk bottle does not smell as much as the cutting and leaving in a bucket of water, and once the concentrate is watered down to a light tea in the water but the solar oxygenator stop the stink.
